You can also use the iPhone’s built-in Notes app to scan documents. Meanwhile, users of Android devices can use the scanner feature in Google Drive.

Type – Type of Scanner

Scanner Drum

Drum scanners use photomultiplier tubes (PMT) technology to read the objects you want to scan. This drum scanner is usually used to design large images, although it can also be for small size images.

Scanner Flatbed

This type of scanner uses CCD (Charge Coupled Device) or CIS (Contact Image Sensor) technology as an “eye” in reading scanned objects. This scanner is most widely found and used because the technology is arguably quite cheap so it is commonly used.

Scanner Film

Although it uses the same eye scanner technology as a flatbed type scanner, namely CCD (Charge Coupled Device) the difference is that it scans and converts data from negative movies or positive movies (slides) well.

Scanner Roller

The most basic difference between these types of scanners is the way they “pull” documents. If the flatbed type scanner moves the “eye” scanner, while this type of Roller Scanner “pulls” the document to be passed over the scanner’s eye. This process results in fast document withdrawal, making it efficient in scanning large numbers of documents.

This type of scanner is divided into 2 more groups, namely ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) and Sheet Feed, as follows:

Scanner ADF (Automatic Document Feeder)

This ADF scanner is a new type of scanner developed specifically for scanning large numbers of documents. This scanner has a “place” to put the documents you want to scan which will then be “pulled” automatically for scanning, unlike Flatbed type scanners that require putting one by one the documents you want to scan.

Sheet Feed Scanner

Sheet Feed Roller Scanner is similar to how ADF Scanner works, but it does not have a “place” to put paper/document, wherein the process of scanning requires us to insert paper one by one. This type of scanner is better known as Mobile Scanner / Notebook Scanner / Portable Scanner.

Hand Scanner

Hand Scanner

The way to scan this type of scanner is to move it by hand manually on an object/document.
